On the H31 there is a long teak trim piece Port/Stbd on the cabin top (pics attached). Have tried to refinish but its on its last legs. Any suggestions as to where I can find actual replacement pieces? Also if anyone has replaced in the past can you share lessons learned? thanks - Jerry

Jerry: I removed ours from our H'31 many years prior. I ordered some PlasTeak as a replacement. The problem was that they shipped it coiled up so it was never straight.

It would be worth checking to see if you could purchase something similar locally or order it from someone that would ship it in a tube. Other than this, I think WM handles real teak, but who wants to mess with that? (OH, maybe you do!) <g>

Will be following this thread for I want to replace our eyebrow when we return from a cruise because it's getting thin in some places. Was afraid to tackle it before leaving because someone said it is difficult to remove. If you do a search on this forum for "eyebrow" there are several postings on the subject.

Never knew that you bought PlasTeak and then gave up on it Steve. I wonder if my experience is different because I pick it up from the factory. The thin stuff comes coiled but it straightens right out. I guess yours was coiled too tightly for too long.

I replaced mine on my H31 with the plasteak and it came out fine, when I received mine I uncoiled and coiled it reversed for a day laying in the sun. It straightened out fine. Then I used automotive trim adhesive double sided tape to attach to the boat. I had a couple of friends hold it away from the boat and worked it on from one end to the other. I had marked the cabin side with erasable marker for the lower edge of the trim for something to work to.

I replaced my eyebrows on my old 91 Hunter 30T with a strip of blue tape. It worked great and no one ever knew there once was teak there.

That is what I call it, I have a H33 (1982) and it is my next project
The ideal product is what the industry calls "glass bits". I am in the door business, it is the piece (available in 8 feet lengths) that you use to secure the wood doors glass, on all four sides: look at you door and you will see it, if it is a square or rectangular glass. It is made of mahogony and woulf be perfect, will probably have to run a router on it. It costs about $ 3.00 (three dollars) for an 8 foot piece
Look up under Bevel King Doors and see if they have a factory near you; otherwise if you wish I could send you a piece. It is in my view the ideal replacement for the eyebrows, in mahogony; and I agree, it would have to be shipped in a tube

I once had both the eyebrows and the handrails of PlasTeak. At the time they only made the one color and it was too light for my taste. The handrails are back to the original teak. I did one side with striping tape, did a lousy job and never did the other side. Now I have some nice pieces cut but not drilled nor varnished in the basement, some kind of cedar. But "Missings" tale makes me think I should try the PlasTeak in the darker color. I still have one traveler base as PlasTeak and plan to do the other. I would also like to do the winch pads but getting the winches and heavy cleats off is a problem. Was it Rardi who painted his cockpit teak? I guess you could just paint the eyebrows. He recommended the Hammered version of Rustoleum for that.

In the picture you can see the dorade lid, traveler base, and a little of the handrail and eyebrow in the light PlasTeak.

Yes, I purchased some. It was not an issue with it being coiled, but more of an issue that it appeared to be "kinked" I probably should have tried screwing it to the dock for a couple of days, that may have resolved the issue.

I ended up selling the boat and the new owner never replaced it either.

Ed:

I was just looking at your photo and noticed that there is a little varnish or something on the dorade ring. You don't still get the urge to varnish the Plasteak do you? <g>
