The Teak Grab Bars on the cabin roof on my H-27 are ggetting a little tired. I revarnish them ever two years or so but even so they are starting to look a bit ratty. I'm thinking of replacing them with stainless bars. Has anyone does this? Any guggestions on the vendor for parts, clues for instillation etc. would be appreciated. Thanks HN of Greenlawn

did it on our H'31

Howard: We did this on our H'31. We had them custom made but they were not cheap. You may want to contact the folks at HOW and see if this is something that the people that make their stanchions can make for you. We had ours installed by the yard when we had some other work done. They drilled holes and filled them with epoxy. Then they redrilled the holes. This prevented the coach roof from flexing and should prevent water from getting into the core. The new rails are through bolted with acorn nuts on the interior.

We really like shorter, stainless rails

You can barely see the shorter stainless grabrails installed between the rope clutch and organizer at the link below. It was installed by a prior owner. It is through bolted to fender washers inside the cabin liner. Of course, all the holes through the deck were drilled to one inch, filled with epoxy, and then drilled to 1/4 inch for the bolts that mount the rails. The rail provides plenty of grabbing target at the aft end of the cabin. Forward of that, the shrouds are our favorite hand hold, and they are a firm support. Another advantrage is that sitting on the (now) smooth cabin top inside the shrouds is now a favorite crew position while underway, or anchored. It does remove a distinctive look of the h27, but we don't miss it. David Lady Lillie

SS rails

Hello Howard, I would call hunter as they might have this item available. Our 35.5 was ordered new from Hunter with no wood on the outside. Hunter supplied SS grab rails. I am including a picture for your review. Have a good day

Still thinking about it

I priced them out for our 78 H30. On the H30 the grab rails are 110" long and had them price 4 intermediate supports. The rails would be curved to match the wooden ones. The price from Tops-in-Quality was $258.50 each. Their website is below. To give you a price, they need overall length, amount of bow in center, size of tubing and number os supports.
