I own an '84 Catalina 36 that survived Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. However, she took in some water during the storm and it was several weeks before I could get in to see her when the city street flooded. There was standing water covering the sole, and some of the teak and holly veneer has delaminated. In one place near the auxillary diesel, a small hole has punched through the teak and holly surfaced plywood.
I have never worked with cabin sole before. There is a large lumber yard in New Orleans that handles 1/4 and 1/2" teak and holly veneer plywood. They say the ply is not marine grade, but regular grade. I am pretty good with repairs, but have never tackled this particular job. Do I need special plywood to replace my floor boards? Is OEM cabin sole different than what I am probably getting at the lumber yard (they say it is appropriate for boats). One boat yard i consulted quoted me $9,000 and said they would be gluing the teak and holly veneer to the plywood themselves, which makes no sense.
I sure could use some good advice from someone who has replaced cabin sole before.
Thanks in advance.
