Replacing stove on Catalina 30

Hello, all,

We live aboard our boat in the summers, so it's not a fulltime thing for us. I just saw a picture on Yachtworld of someone who'd replaced their stove (including oven) with a cooktop. They used the space the oven used to take up for a microwave. This sounds like something I'd like to do, because I never use the oven, but would love to hear from others who've done the same thing.

We are currently using CNG gas for cooking only. We use kerosene for heating, which is usually necessary in the mornings in Seattle, even in the summer. We have a propane grill in the cockpit and the engine is diesel. So we have a variety of fuels onboard. Our boat in FL has a kerosene stove, and I'd rather not deal with that on this boat. It's a pain, although obviously safer. I guess my first preference would be to find a cooktop that uses CNG, if at all possible. If not, propane is probably the next obvious choice, maybe something like this: http://www.defender.com/product.jsp?path=-1|2276204|2276209|2276211&id=2077265

Thanks for any advice!

My Catalina 30 is a 1987 model. I have the CNG also. I've thought about doing the same as I use my oven for storage of pots and pans only, as it uses too much gas and you can only fill the CNG tanks a few places in the entire state of Florida. Maybe when more CNG vehicles come on line, it will bring more options for us.

Kitty, you don't need to remove the stove to make room for a microwave.
We installed a smaller model microwave in the space located to the port side of the companionway, & its fits great without moving around while underway. Also made room for a toaster oven beside the microwave, & a coffee maker. The C 30 has the biggest galley around for a 30 footer! Our stove was already removed when we got our C 30, so we installed a refrigerator. Of course the only downside is that these 110 volt devices won't work while on the hook. But since we do our serious cooking at the dock nyway, they really come in handy. Cheers.
