Replacing spreader mount on a H19-2

Hi everyone - long time listener, first time caller. Thanks for all the knowledge I've been able to glean so far about a1993 H19-2 that I was able to pick up last August.

I noticed the port spreader was bent as soon as I put the mast up last year. It was late August and I was anxious to get sailing for the first time and the harbor master at my local inland midwestern lake said it was probably fine, so I just went with it for the rest of the season. Glad I did, had a blast. Fast forward to this season and I'm scrambling to get it fixed before I put it on the bouy and I've been working since April to do just that.

My first thought was to try gently bend the spreader back into place, but with the damage from the bend and wear of the material I wound up breaking the mount that attaches the spreader to the mast. There is no longer any material supporting the underside of the spreader. I've been working to find a replacement, but I'm not having much luck.

My question is whether you think this replacement spreader kit on SBO for an H23.5 would do the job. It make sense to me since these boats are so close in lineage. That said, I've been wrong many times before...

I appreciate any advice. I look forward to sharing some of my updates as I try to turn into was probably a bad condition boat into a tidy sailor.

Spreader mounts can be very brand specific. Sometimes even model specific. For my Mark 25 I had a welder repair mine since no replacement was available.
You can try to find the original manufacturer but they could be going down a rabbit hole. A lot of those companies are out of business. You can check with salvage yards but that's a needle in a haystack. The last option I can think of is consulting with a machine shop about fabricating a new one. Maybe make a 3D printer version. Or 3D a plastic one and cast it. If you have the complete old broken one there's a chance.

Former Hunter dealer. You need to advise
If mast and boom are Z Spar. If so, replacement parts come from US Spars. This forum store will know the part you will need. @Dave Groshong Can you help?

Thanks for the tips so far. It is indeed Z Spar. Mast base casting number is 1100 if that helps anything too.

Would prefer to replace it and the spreader with official parts, but I may check in with my local maker space to see if the have the capabilities to copy the good mount on the other side and replace it with something solid.

Hi everyone. New Hunter 19-2 owner. Just started sailing last year after getting my ASA cert. Bought her 2 weeks ago. She came with no motor. Do they require a short shaft or long shaft outboard. I measured about 17.5 inches from the transom to the keel. Figured I ask other owners and get the real deal

Glad there is a forum of knowledgeable Hunter 19-2 owners here to help this newbie!

Thanks,
Rich

Hey Rich,

I'm pretty new myself, but I’m pretty sure you want a long shaft motor. To keep the prop in the water as the boat heels if you’re powered and under sail.

I have a 19-2 and mine came with a short shaft Tohatsu 6 hp motor. I believe its a short shaft, since it doesn't say long shaft anywhere on it. It has to heel over a lot before that prop comes out of the water. I think it only happened once, and I thought I was going to flip it. But if I was going to buy a brand new one, I would get a long shaft.
