Saw a post this past year regarding the replacement of Sheaves and can not locate it. I am changing from wire to rope. 76 C27. How many sheaves should I pre-purchase 2 or 4. I remember someone saying you could use the old wire sheaves as spacers good or bad. What type of sheaves should I order ball bearing, nylon, the cost varies greatly. Line will be 5/16. Thanks

Two if internal.

You will need two sheaves if you convert to internal halyards. When I did my 1978 Sun 27, I didn't need spacers as the rope sheaves were wider than the wire sheaves. You will, however, need two exit boxes if you elect to go internal. I don't think that I could have fit two rope sheaves on each side of the masthead. Changing to internal rope halyards was one of the best things I did to the boat in the 22 years I owned it. I still have the wire halyards if anyone is interested.
