Hello all,

What size and length of line should I use for the roller furling on my Catalina 320? The line is worn out out and better to replace it, I don't want to take it out to measure. It is a Schaefer.

Thanks in advance,

65' of 3/8"... I replaced mine with 5/16" because it fits the spool better, but it tough on the hands in heavy air. I also only used 55' which is just barely enough, because I wasn't thinking when I got it...the general rule for furling line is length of the boat times 2... 32.5' x 2 = 65'

You have to take it out to put the new one on. Why not do that first and measure?

Because I will order a new one online before taking the old one out ;-) Much cheaper on Defender than at the local WestMarine here.

Understood. If it was my boat, I'd add a few feet to what was suggested, just in case. Good luck. When I did this for our boat, I took it off and just tied a short line from the drum to the nearest pulpit. Only took a few days to get the line so I didn't miss any sailing. I went with the 3/8", sometimes anything smaller is hard to grab.

All that information is in the documents that Catalina sends with it's boats...unless, of course, your boat is used and the previous owner did not leave that information for you.
