I have a 1989 Hunter 376 Legend and the interior lights are slowly failing on me. On most the switch seems to be breaking inside the light, but I haven't taken it apart yet. Are there replacement parts for these lights and what is the best way to disassemble them for replacement/repair. Also, is it worth repairing them, or should I purchase replacements. If this is best, what is the best replacement?

I have a Legend 37.5 and my lamps where just pot metal and rusted badly. There are some spiffiy floresent replacement you can find using google. They use lots less current too.

Look at Alpen Glow lights.

Not the cheapest but some of the best lighting around. I just had custom units made for our recessed lights on our 1994 Hunter Vision 36. The old lights put out about 40% of the replacement units. We had them add red LED's for night sailing too. PS: I have some of the old units if anyone is interested in them.

Ditto re: Alpen Glow

We had two flourescents in a recessed skylight area over the dining table and replaced them with Alpen Glow units on our '94 Legend 37.5. We switched them separately and have never needed both of them on at the same time for eating, playing cards or reading. Great lights! We also replaced one of the (cheap) reading lights in the aft berth with one of their reading lights. We can both read in bed with just the one light, even with the lower watt bulb. They're great and they provide superb individual customer service. We also replaced a couple of the round cabintop lights with red/white LED lights from Defender.com. The red's great for night sailing but the white's only so-so. We also replaced a couple of the (cheap) reading light bulbs with LEDs from Ledtronics.com. Spendy, I think around $30 each, not bad for reading if you aim the light right at the page. There's something I don't like about white LED light, it feels cold or something. Alpen Glows feel warm, I like that. Glen
