We are looking at an O'DAY 27 that needs a bit of work (okay, quite a bit of work). One part needing immediate replacing is the smoked glass that covers the window openings. Has anyone done this before, and if so, how involved is this project. How much is the cost to 'have it done' or how involved is it if you 'do it yourself." Thanks!

Replacing Windows

I've done this project on an O'Day 240. (I believe that the single window on each side of the 240 is the largest ever used by O'Day.) I ordered the replacement window from Rudy. Yes, it was costly, as was shipping. He explained how to do it. It's just a big job. The most difficult part is removal of the sealer that was under the old window. You need to mask and then spray black paint on the new window whereever it is contacting the boat. (I used Krylon flat black.) Also to avoid hairline chips or cracks when you drill clearance holes for mounting screws in the new window, you should use special bits for drilling plexiglas. I ordered the drill from US Plastics in Lima, Ohio. Here's a link to their Web Site, Google them with <US Plastics> search.

Thanks Jon for the EXCELLENT leads

Thanks for the information. I actually called Rudy today, per your advice. Thank you very much for the information on where to get the bits too!
