We are about to pull our engine and are curious to hear from others who have done the same. I'd like to hear pros and cons on rebuilding vs repowering. For rebuilding, how did you remove and reinstall your engine? For repowering, what engine did you go with and what changes did you have to make.

Diesel replacement

I replaced my Westerbeck 4-107 with a 50hp Beta Marine and I wish I would have done it much sooner. I had thought about rebuilding but you never know what will happen next with a rebuild So engine, tran, shaft log and prop we all replaced Greg

416 OI Engine 4-236 Perkins

Eight Plus years ago I purchased the Sail-La-Vie with a new Perkins 4-236 (85HP) with a 18-17-3 Blade Prop. Every thing on the water would pass us under power. After I changed to a 20-20-4 Blade , now it is great I get my RPM if I want and use about 3/4 Gallon Fuel per hour at 2000 RPM and 7 Kts , With all the tides and currents around the Islands here, It seens that the Tide is always going the wrong direction. I can't complain !!

Could you provide more details? Did you change bedding? new tranny? alignment problems? Where you purchased the engine and any other helpful info... Thanks for the reply.. Ken

to the person who replace the 4.107, how did

you pull your engine out? My 35' morgan has very little clearance around the motor at the top, and i am thinking about pulling the engine for a full rebuild. It weighs 600lbs, right? Im thinking; put a rail above it with a 5:1 block on a wheeled slider, use the block to lift the engine and the rail + slider to move it forward, then use a crane to lift it out the companion way. Did yours fit through all the holes? did you have to disassemble it and then remove the block?
