I'm replacing the foam-backed vinyl insulation/liner. I've ripped it
out, scrubbed the area where it was with acidic cleaner and deagreaser
then pressure washed it. Theres still old glue, but the area is
pretty clean. I plan to replace the old with a very fine knap out-
door carpet that Home Depot sells. My question is, is there anything
more I should do before applying contact cement and glue the new stuff
on? And, does anyone have exsperience with a glue that has worked
well (the boat will be in the tropics) for this. Thanks!

Andy, Sounds like you're doing the right thing. We did the same and were
pleased with the results.
No problems after too many years in locked up in the Mexican sun. Walt

Has anyone found something that removes the old glue under original the

Andy: I've done exactly what you are doing. I used a medium grey
carpet and repainted the old 'splatter' grey finished liner inside
with an off-white color. It looks good.
I did mine in winter, so used a cold weather adhesive for
indoor/outdoor carpet that even works on asphalt. I would not use it
again as the glue has a very strong smell that seems to take quite a
while to go away. I recommend using a latex-based glue that is as
odorless as possible.
I used the same carpet in my other boat a couple of years ago and it's
standing up well, however, I can't coment on how it would fare in a
tropical climate.

I used a sharp 1" chisel, some heavy leather gloves, and some good
background music. It didn't all come off, but all the dried loose
stuff peeled away leaving a slightly tacky cleaner surface to apply
a layer of new glue. If I were going to paint, I'd follow the
scraping with some thinners to remove the last bit of residue. Good
ventillation and a breathing mask are helpful, too.

Hello Andy, I figured if I could not get the glue off it would never
come off.
The foam has insulating properties to cut down on condensation. I
replaced the liner with closed cell foam that I cemented vinyl
upholstery to. This was then contact cemented to the hull. It looks
great and is easy to clean. I am not a fan of carpeting as it retains
ordors and is difficult to clean.

ATTENTION Md6a OWNERS! Does anyone know the conversion apparatus to change the existing exhaust setup to Vetus system? Will a 3inch diameter Vetus water collector connecting to the exhaust manifold without adding any other Volvo manifold parts work? On my Md2 In a 1970 contest, had to buy a water bypass elbow that fit on end of exhaust manifold and connected to thermostat housing by hose. Any advice would be appreciated, Pat V2137 "Puffin"
