I have a 1981 Hunter 30 last summer as we were tracking down the smell. We discovered the lid in the V berth that hunter made into the holding tank out of was leaking on the top side (into our cushions) and also under lid inside the chamber. My first idea is to cut out the cavity out and replace it with a custom tank and second is to put a tank somewhere. any toughs?

Simplest solution...

Make a new lid and seal it with a rubber gasket.

molded in tank?

John: Is your tank molded into the liner? That is the way they did it on our '85 Hunter 31. If this is the case you should be able to remove the screws and lift the lid. They used a lot of caulking around the lid and you will need to get some putty knifes and pry bars under this lid to lift it. I would also consider using some type of chemicals to release the caulking. Be very careful that you do not crack the fiberglass. Then you should be able to recaulk and seal the tank lid again. You may want to call Hunter and see what product that they used to caulk this area.

A rubber gasket will seal much better and

last much longer than any caulk. And has the added advantage of allowing access to the inside of the tank if--God forbid--it should ever be necessary.

Lid

My 1990 H27 water tank lid was just like that and worse. I replaced my lid with a 1/4" clear lexan and rubber gasket, 30 stainless screws and cut a piece of 3/8" fur plywood, painted it as a filler under the V-birth mattress. now I can look into my tank and it is very strong also. Jim
