I have purchased a new Xantrex charger and Inverter. My old charger (the one that would toast batteries) was hung on the bulkhead near the water pump and the two group 27 batteries sit on either side of the shaft just aft of the transmission. What other locations might I consider for the charger, the inverter, and the new battery banks. the house bank will probably be golf cart batteries. All suggestions welcomed some may be ignored. ;D Frank S/V Refugee

Replacement Battery Charger

Our '87 H31 battery charger is located under the nav table and the batteries are just aft of the engine/transmission assembly on a 3/4" plywood shelf located right above the prop shaft. The battery selector switch is positioned on the interior bulkhead between the sink and the cabin access. I believe these locations are all factory origional. Hope this helps.

I have changed mine around

I changed mine around. I built a shelf above my water heater and put two group 27 deep cycle batteries on it. I then replaced the two above the shaft with a single group 27 multi-purpose battery. The charge could go just about anywhere. But the PO of my boat mounted in the stern berth on the wall. I have considered moving it but so far it hasn't been a problem where it is. I have also seen on H31's the batteries under the aft portion of the port salon settee.

400 plus Amps

We just purchased our H31,1984. Our charger/inverter is mounted under the aft starbord setee. Our batteries for the house side are mounted under the port side setee{4 golf bat}. Then we have one 27 series aft of the transmission, this one is for starting only.

Ours is aft of the sink (above water heater)

Frank: Our H'31 has the battery charger mounted in the lazarette PIT. The charger is on the bulkhead aft of the sink and above the water heater. It is out of the way but still provides good access. We have a remove panel mounted in the alcove next to the chart table. We have two batteries mounted above the shaft log on a plywood platform and two additional batteries mounted in the aft lazarette (under the helm seat. There is actually a place to mount batteries in the PIT just forward of the fuel tank. I opted to not mount them there because of the starboard side list. I figured we did not need another 120+ pounds on that side of the boat.
