Replacing muffler on Hunter 28.5

Has anyone replaced the built in muffler on their Hunter 28.5? I need to replace ours as it's leaking into the fuel tank (I've already replaced the fuel tank). Should I try to cut out the top of the old one and then try and place a new vernalift muffler down in the hole, or could I just bolt a new vernalift down to the sail locker? Either way, is there a particular size, or is it dictated by the hose size?

Rick- Contact Hunter and ask them what make/model was the "drop-in" bubble box/muffler they used to upgrade/fix the bleeding of exhaust water into the fuel tank. Mine was bleeding water into the adjacent fuel tank on delivery 20+ yrs ago. I have picture of the lazarette locker floor after the "redo"- if you want to see it look me up in the directory and send me your email.
