Replacing Molding On Transom

Ha sanyone replaced the rubber molding around the transom? We bought the rubber from Beneteau. It is so stiff we have actually chipped the gel coat trying to get it on. Does anyone have any tricks? We are doing damage trying to protect the boat!! Thanks, Cindy s/v Velocity

I had the molding replaced on mine when it was in the yard, but I would think a heat gun would soften up the rubber enough to make it more pliable. Start at the lowest setting and work up to find the right temp. Don't scorch it.
