I have had my CH33 for a couple of years now. No records of when the elbows were last replaced and as they were looking corroded on the outside, i thought it might be worthwhile swapping them out.
I bought the combined unit including the connector from Torresen Marine. Removing the old elbows was reasonably straightforward - the raw water intake hose came off, then the elbow and gasket pretty cleanly and then i was able to remove the exhaust hose.
Getting the new elbow on was slightly trickier...holding the gasket, a bolt and the two elbows and trying to attach to the engine block involved sweat, salty language, grunting, anti-seize absolutely everywhere and finally scrabbling about under the engine to find the bolts i had dropped. Several times. Then i had a brainwave. I broke a pencil into 2 small parts about 2" long, sharpened one end of each part and pushed them into the boltholes on the engine block. Using these as guides, the gasket went on and rested in place while i the elbow was guided on. Inserted the 2 bottom bolts, then removed my pencil guides and inserted the top 2 bolts. Easy peasy.
Feeling very chuffed, i then attempted to reattach the raw water hose only to find the angle of the intake joint on the elbow made it impossible (it was pointing upwards at and angle of approx 45 deg rather than straight back). Couldn't shift it with the wrench, so off came the elbow and gasket and a little bit of persuasion later, it was lined up. Reattached using my pencil guides as before, hoses attached and good to go.
At that point i ran out of time, so i have not tested with engine running. I also had a look at the old elbow and apart from a bit of corrosion, the insides look remarkably clear, which was slightly deflating.
