OK,

My first thread on this forum, but I really hope someone out here can give me some information.

I am re-fitting a new-to-me Islander P40 and need to replace all of the running rigging. The mast is down and in inspecting the mast head crane; I have determined that the sheaves should be replaced if possible.

The issue is that the crane, as shown in the attached pictures, has a welded in insert for the forward sheaves. There is one Main Halyard sheave in the rear of the crane with an accessible pin and three sheaves in the front. The center front exits much lower under the forestay pin and is used for the Jib Halyard. The PO used one of the two higher side sheaves for a spinnaker halyard.

When I inspected the mast and took the pictures the other evening after work, I thought the two plates were for wiring access, but now think they MIGHT be for sheave pin removal.

Does anyone have any advice or information on how to proceed to replace the sheaves with new ones that run easy and will support my move to all rope halyards?
