Replacing Masthead Anchor light

Hunter 1983 - 34' Port of Everett
I own Hunter 1983 34. I will climbing the Mast to find out why my anchor light is not working. Probably burned out, but, could be something else. Anyway wondering if anyone out there has knowledge about what type of Light fixture Hunter used in 1983. Bayonet? Single contact? Double Contact? Replacement Number? or other Traps n Tips about fixing the anchor light. I was thinking about replaciing it with a LED so if any helpful hints would be appreached

If this is your first time up a mast a couple of things to bring
ALWAYS have a buddy on the deck that knows what they are doing ie can work a winch
consider taking a hand mirror in the tool bag. A lot of times you can't get above the mast head with your eyes and need to look down into the bulb socket to see what is going on in there.
Don't take the tool bag up with you, tie a rope to it and then hoist it once you get to the top. This also gives you a way to get that tool you forgot or did not think you would need.
Spend some time making (or buy) a seat. The mast head is not the place to be uncomfortable. A simple plank with 4 holes at the corners and a length of line to make a loop that you can attach to the halyard is MUCH better than a cloth "seat"
Wear long pants with pockets you can get into while setting.
If you have the owners manual it should list all the bulbs. Just google the number to get a picture of what it looks like.

You might have to go up twice. The first is to find out what you have. Sometimes the manuals aren't right.

To throw in my 2 cents and add to Bill's suggestions, if you are going to buy a bosun's chair, buy one with a hard seat and with pockets on the side. It is easier once up there to reach into those pockets than into yours. Also you can have your winch buddy hoist the tool bag with another halyard once you've reach the top. And finally, play it safe by attaching a second halyard to the chair and having the slack taken off as you are hoisted. Should anything happen to the main halyard, you are secured.

Some of the Hunters use a combination steaming light/anchor light in one fixture. They seem to draw a lot of current.
I intend to convert ours over to an LED anchor light and a separate steaming light.
I bought an LED anchor light but have not found a steaming light I like yet.

The anchor light is a Hella brand, http://www.hellamarine.com/en/produ...360-all-round-white-pole-navigation-lamp.html
and it was about $100.

Thanks for the tips. Pretty much havet the climb up under control. I am third owner so manufacture manual did not come with the boat. I pretty sure it a bayonet single post. Guess I will find out when I visit the crows nest.

I replaced my anchor light with LED but steaming remains bulb as it'll be fed by alternator when engine runs.
