I'm replacing mast step on Widgeon. The previous screw holes are wallowed out. So I bolted mast step to 2"x5" piece of aluminum. And plan to screw it back. My question what is a screw size to hole size ratio. I want it tight enough to grab good but not to tight to crack fibverglass. Limited access. And I have talked my self out of cutting holes.

Mike, Why don't you call Rudy Nickerson of D&R Marine today and ask him about this. Rudy still has O'Day Widgeons being made for him and he does all the assembly work at his store. His phone number is (508)644-3001. He's located in Assonet Massachusetts. He may provide you with some info on an easier and better way of doing it. When you install the machine screws, you should coat the threads with "Lock-Tite" so that they never back off due to vibration. Joe
