replacing lower shroud

I have a 1987 Hunter 23. This is my second season sailing. I took down the mast yesterday and inspected the standing rigging as I prepare to store my boat for the winter. The lower (inner shroud) on the starboard side needs to be replaced. I can't figure out how to remove it. On the mast the shroud comes out of a piece metal that protrudes from a hole in the mast and has a small rivet about an inch above the Piece of metal. The metal that the shroud comes out of looks like an aluminum nose with one nostril. The shroud moves freely in this piece of metal but the metal piece is immovable. How do I remove the shroud and replace it?

Shrouds on 1985 H23

Mike, I have a 1985 H23 and I just replaced all my shrouds this past season. On my set up, there is a thick pin, like a nose, with a cotter pin on the other side. This goes on the piece of metal that protrudes off the mast. The difficult issue I had when I removced the shroud was that the cotter pin was hidden from view on the inner side of this piece of metal. It was than hard to get at. See if you have the same set up.. Good luck, Chuck S/V Windsongs

Mike, you will have to drill out the rivet then push the flange into the mast and turn it until it will come back through the hole. Then slide the flange all the way down the stay and off if you want to re-use it.

removing inner shroud from H23 mast

If all your doing is removing the shroud, on my 1987 H23 wing keel, the shroud end at the mast is a t ball fitting. You just rotate it 90 degrees and it comes out through the elongated hole in the mast. If your trying to remove the part in the mast that the t ball fits into - good luck. Bill Leathen

removing inner

Listen to what Bill says, I just replaced mine on my 89 23 , no reason to remove more than the tball fitting you might have to give in a nice tug after you rotate it but it should pop , the original post was a bit confusing, other than that there is a pin and cotter or oring at the turn buckle, good luck Mike Bacome
