Replacing lens on bomar hatch

The len on the galley hatch cracked.
What is the process of replacing it. Do i need to replace the gasket as well?

Bobby, the procedure depends on the hatch design and size. Not all identical. The gasket on most hatches is integral with the lens so likely yes. If the gasket is as old as the boat then why not make it better and save having to redo the project in a couple of years.

Usually, you can disassemble the lens and take the "glass" to a plastics fabricator to have a new one cut/drilled.. or if you are handy with tools, buy a piece of acrylic the correct thickness and make the part yourself. Bowmar is a company owned by Pompanette and they are still in business .. you may be able to call them and find the part..

My quetion is how do you take it apart and reassemble?
Just cut the caulk and pull out and then glue it back?
How is the gasket installed? Do you need any special tools to put it back wuth the gasket?

@Boby_Hunter33 I looked online for a match to your port, and could not find one. So could not find the detail drawing of the hatch install. Not sure if you can find a part number on the hatch.

With out the drawings it would be a go slow and figure it out in the process for me.

Like John, I didn't see any drawings or external pictures.. "usually" the lens is removable without disturbing the frame that is caulked into the deck. Once the lens is free of the hinges, then the dogs can be disassembled from the lens leaving the flat acrylic part to be used as a pattern to make the new one ..
