If you've done this could you relate how hard is to replace the keel stub. My wood has gone soft and it should be removed. How long should I expect this to take? Thanks for any tips or insights.

Im working on mine now I removed all the stuf in the bilge Then cut around the bilge with a grinder and wheel sucking out the glass dust with a shop vac as I cut.Use a long hose so the vac could stay on the ground out side. Then I used a2" hole saw to cut holes from the top throw the glass and teak wood then we removed the glass frount then rear while onley takeing off half the keel nuts at a time. This took about 2 hrs for the work and about two hours to gather up the stuff and get ready to work with two men working .Then I put two dehumidifier tubs in the bilge to help dry the wood and shrink it up a little.when we went to the boat the next weekend we took two 3' long screw drivers from craftsmen and some long framing chisels to pry and cut and a long 1" electricion drillbit and slow speed drill to drill under the moter to get all the wood out from the very end of the keel.My wood was 11/2" thick and came out in 4 pices once I cut down the center with hole saw sawzall chisels and pryed with angled screw driver. There was putty on the bottom under the wood so if you cut throw the wood a little it did nt cut the glass and if you watch the shaveing you can tell if you are cutting wood putty or glass take it slow untill you see the thickness of the wood this took about4hrs with two men working nonstop.I left the boat for the winter to dry and becouse its cold to work in upper NY but if it warmes up I can glass it back in on stus link there is a catalina drawing on the keel stub but It dosent seem to work on my boat becouse they have us puting back only about 3/8 of an inch of glass and mat and I need to put back 13/4 " of material so my keel bolts can be run down flat with washers without rubbing the sides of the keel The girls a catalina told me to lay up glass 11/2" thick then follow the instructions in there fix it sheet. The moter is close to the bilge and Im not sure how I would get in there with a bunch of glass mat. That much glass from defender isnt cheep.E Mail me your phone # and Ill give you a ring so we can share Imfo Meow10950@yahoo.com

It's a Capri

Stu, It's a Capri 25. John, Thanks for the detailed description of how you are doing yours. I have a number of other items that also need looking at. Subsequently, I'm having the folks at my boatyard quote the work. They have a great reputation. Replacing the stub doesn't scare me, but I don't have the tools for the job and don't see myself doing this kind of work in the future.
