I recieved the following from humminbird; "Thank you for contacting Humminbird. There is not an upgrade program offered for the 300 TX. The following units will work on your same existing base but depending on the unit whether it is single beam, dual beam, or quadra beam would determine the sonar coverage received from your existing transducer for the 300 TX. Models include FF515 (single beam), FF535 (single beam), FF565 (dual beam), Matrix 10 (single beam), Matrix 17 (dual beam), Matrix 27 (dual beam), Matrix 37 (quadra beam), Matrix 67 (quadra beam with your transducer). Also, the connector holder on the mounting base will need to be changed to properly align the wiring harness for the new system. Should you require any further assistance, please let us know." has anyone replaced theirs with any of the above? I want to upgrade to color(all whistles and bells) but without having to place the base mount/wiring etc. I want to be able to just plug it into the old mount if possible. Any ideas or suggestions might clear up the confusion. Thanks

Try the Matrix units

I used two fish finders on my bass boat, which I interchanged between a trolling motor transducer and a transom mount with good results. The Matrix units have GPS capabilities, and some of the higher end ones function as chartplotters. The transducer limitations apply to the "peripheral vision" of the fish finding function. Find the one you like, and keep the transducer that ships with it in case you feel the urge to rewire down the road.

Thanks 'muised'

for the help. I don't need GPS, or chartplotter as its mounted in it's own unit. So maybe the FF565 if it's color, not familar with the specs on any yet, will have to reseach more I guess. Just thought someone may have upgraded with a newer unit. Wish I was in Halifax with you? Spent a week in Nova Scotia a couple years ago, friendly and nicest people I would ever want to meet, haven't found any good smoked herring since I left Digby. Would wait for summer though, looked like winters could be a little rough.

You're Welcome

We're having a better winter than New England this year - t-shirt weather today (above freezing). Glad you enjoyed Nova Scotia - if you didn't get the chance it's a great place to sail as well - I keep my boat about five miles from Peggy's Cove and sail there regularly during the season.
