Our new to us 1988 Hunter 30 decided it was time to replace the aluminum holding tank by rusting at the pump out connection. Not much left to repair. The holding tank is located next to the sink in the vanity cabinet next to the toilet. It is an odd shape since it contours the hull. It is 18 inches wide by 18 inches tall. At the base the tank is four inches deep and 18 inches deep at the top. Has anyone replaced this tank on this boat? Where did you find a tank to fit the existing location or were modifications required. I have looked through the Ronco Plastics and Sealand holding tank catalogs but I have not found the right size to fit the location. Tim

Hi Tim, I believe that hunter moved the location of the holding tank to the aft cockpit locker sometime after our boats were built. I have a 89' 30G and the holding tank is in the vanity as well. I think you might be able to move the tank aft and go with a larger capacity and fit something "off the shelf". I have a convienient pump out and there is some wisdom to keeping it where it is, short hose runs etc. Was the extraction difficult? Tim 1989 H30G

Removing Holding Tank
Tim Removing the tank was very easy. There are 1x1 wooden supports on the backside of the vanity front wall that holds the front vanity wall in place and can be accessed from the cabinet doors. Front vanity panel came off easily by removing about 10 screws from the 1x1 supports. The holding tank is secured by another 1x1 support and a metal strap around the tank. A hacksaw cut the strap to free the tank. There is foam sprayed behind the tank to hold it in place. The foam was stained from the leaking tank so that had to be removed. The melamine covering is peeling at the bottom of the wall, cabinet doors and head door so all of these items are being sanded, primed and painted with Interlux Brightside Polyurethane. This projected started when I was replacing the sanitation hoses. Very easy project until the pump out elbow started leaking. Thank goodness the tank had not been put in use since last year's pump out. Tim 1988 Hunter 30G

Same Problem with my water tank
I had a similar experience with my 50 gallon water tank in our 1988 H33.5. I contacted Hunter and got them to send me a digital picture (.jpg) of the manufacture drawing for the tank and the name of the manufacturer. I contacted the original manufacturer and they gave me a quote for a new aluminum tank. I also contacted Ronco, sent them the drawing and asked could they manufacture the tank in plastic. They were eager to add the tank to their line of tanks. They gave me a quote and with shipping it was only a little more than the aluminum tank. I went with the plastic tank from Ronco. They built a mold, manufactured the the tank and I received it a few weeks later. They did a super job on the tank.

Holding Tank too
So - since these last posts does anyone have a more economical solution for a plastic tank? My wife and daughter are thinking that my new to me - 1988 Hunter 30 head does not smell the way they would like - so I am replacing hoses and tank - I hope!
