Replacing Head Mirrors

As part of our ongoing renovation of our 1984 Hunter 31, we ran into a road block trying to remove the deteriorating mirrors in the head. Tried to run a razor blade around the perimiter to loosen the 24 year old adhesive without great success. Concerned about breaking the glass with force. Could we just glue new mirrors on top of these? Or do you have any other ideas?

Piano Wire

I just had some new ones made up for my 40.5. I intend to thread some piano wire behind them to break the bond. At least that's what the yard said they did when they replaced one years ago. In any event, I don't worry at all about breaking them. I'm going to replace them anyway. One word of advice, be sure to use mirror adhesive. Other kinds may attack the silvering. RD

Duct Tape

Suggest that you duct tape over all of the surface of the mirror and then use moderate force!
