Has anyone ever tried to fit a 1/2" main halyard thru the pulley at the top of the mast. My son bought 1/2" lines and cannot get it thru. We tried at dusk so we couldn't really tell what was going on but I thought I'd ask anyway
way too big so don't use it. ... if you seriously want help... tell us what kind of boat you're talking about, or at least tell us how big it is.I suggest you obtain an owner's manual for your boat. The manual will usually have all the specs... i.e. wire sizes, rope sizes etc.
Sorry. It is a Catalina 30 standard rig, CF7903HB, 1982, 2 cyl. Universal Diesel with very few add-ons since it was purchased by the original owner. I believe my son who is the real owner is the third.
That's what the specs call for. My PO had 1/2 inch, and it was a really hard to raise the main. The sheeves take a 3/8 inch line. Anything over that is added friction, plus a wear on the outer edges of the 1/2 inch.Just my opion.Dave
Hi Andy...The specfication according to the owners manual is 3/8-inch for the halyards. I have a 1988 Mark II model and replaced both main and jib halyards with low stretch braided 3/8-inch line and its just fine. No binding on the winches or sheeves on deck.Follow this to the Catlaina Owners Manual.......ResoucesSailing Web Sitesgo to page 2 and hit International Catalina 30 Assoc.Technical Library30 Parts ManualSpars and Rigging (pages 3-13) its all there! Its states the Jib and Main Halyard are 3/8-inch.I half-inch is way to thick as addressed here.
