Unfortunately the grippers on the traveler are worn and need replacement. Do I need to replace the entire traveler or can someone on this board guide me in the right direction.I have sent e-mails to Beneteau Parts but have come up empty handed. Thanks

Boxers or Grippers

Thank you for the picture and for acknowledging that 100 year old question. That's a great setup and certainly will be copied on my vessel. Thanks

like that setup agaliha

thats a great idea agaliha, I have slats in the dodger and its always a pain getting them unlocked up there with the dodger has all panels in. can you give details on what hardware the lock is ? Is it easy to pull the rope thru the cleat to take the top off ? I prefer to race and sail without the dodger panels in front but sometimes the crew starts complaining :(

Spinlock PXR

Syversens, the traveler line is locked by a Spinlock PXR cleat on each side. They can be locked (pull down)or unlocked (pull up) with one hand. You can see in the photo that I mounted them up on a little teak block so that it is easier to pull down on the line to lock them. They work great! My original dodger had 12" zippers on each side and you ended up reaching through the zipper to load or unload the cams on the Lewmar traveler...a real pain. Also, the zipper patches obstructed my forward view significantly. Yes, the Spinlocks can be unthreaded and rethreaded in a nano second if you want to remove the dodger. Since my boat has mid boom sheeting, I have found that I must use the traveler when sailing to weather. If I just lock the traveler in the center I give up 10 degrees or more of pointing ability. more questions about your setup

agalia, I'm going to try to replicate your setup... I got the spinlocks but are there other hardware needed to replace the locks presently on the traveler, it looks like you have a block there ? are the spinlocks tough enough to hold the sheet in any condition ? I think my spinlock is rated for 500 pounds.... also on the port side I have 3 double spinlocks so there isnt much room for it, where did you place your port cam ? So far I have been racing without moving the traveller but I definately want to use it going upwind.... perhaps even the mrs will like it when cruising. thanks ! Gaute

traveler hardware

On my B361 traveler, all I had to do was remove the cam-cleats from each end of the traveler. I used an allen wrench to remove the screw and the S.S. plates holding the cam-cleats came off easily. I didn't have to add any blocks as the traveler had "double" block on both ends to turn the line toward the cockpit. Yours may be different. I had plenty of room on both sides to add the spinlocks (as the photo showed.) The spinlocks are plenty strong enough for this application. The mainsheet carries the greatest load and the traveler load is lateral. You'll love this arrangement cruising or racing. So will the mrs. Agaliha
