Replacing fuel filler hose

Hi Everyone,

We desperately need to replace the fuel (diesel) filler hose on our boat.
Does this mean we will have to pull the fuel tank all or partially? Can
you let us know the best way to go about doing this? We appreciate any or
all help.

Thanks,

Hello Jody & Rick

Check out my site on the links of this user group.

Rebuilding "Tarka the Otter"
This website shows the complete rebuild of Vega 1639
Tarka the Otter

Messy job but gives you a chance to clean the tank. Is the boat in th
water now? A little akward to drain the tank. Also, I am told that
the tank is a bit tighter in the bilge when it is in the water.

You may be able to fit on the fill pipe by sliding the tank all the
way forward. Atach the pipe to the tank then connect the pipe to the
deck fill pipe.

On our Vega the owner made a joint under the cockpit and never
replaced the portion to the tank. This was completly rotten.

I hope this helps

We just did that job on Lealea V1860 two weeks ago.

It is not necessary to remove the fuel tank to replace the hose.
(Lealea's fuel tank is in the bilge. I am assuming yours is also)

It is a bit of an awkward job and removing the clamps from the tank
fitting must be done blind but once the old hose is off the job goes
fairly easily.

Replaced the hose using the "blind technique" ie just reaching up under the
floor. It is not difficult but does take time and patience.

Paul,

Thanks for the information. Our filler hose was in such bad
shape, though, that it broke in two while we were trying to remove
it. We ended up pulling the fuel tank all the way out, which was
just as well since we found about four inches of old fuel, water
and general gunk below the tank-stand. I think we need to set up
a better bilge pump system. Anyone have any suggestions?
