I have a dome light and a reading light that are not working on my new (to me) H30. Bulb replacement didn't help, so I assume the fixture itself needs fixing or replacing. Any suggestions for troubleshooting? Should I just put new fixtures in? The former owner said the dome lights go bad sometimes; he replace a few of them already. If I am to replace, is this just a matter of replacing the fixture itself - reconnecting the old wires to the new fixture at the fixture, or do I have to run new wires all the way to the panel? Any suggestions for how to do this are greatly appreciated. I am no electrician. Thanks!

I have replaced all of mine.

Sherry: I have replaced all of my lights. I think that the switches are the weak link. You could try replacing the switches if you like. Shop around, you may be able to get some new lights for not a lot more than just the switches. Most of the stuff that is sold at the marine outlets is not the best quality. Alpen Light makes some very good lights, but they are not cheap. There are some others that are coming to market that may be better quality too.

Wiring goes bad

I've had one replaced after the new bulb didn't do the trick. Moisture probably isn't good for wiring.

Sherry start at the begining

Meaning determine if power is getting to the fixure. Buy either a simple 12 volt circuit tester at an auto parts store that will have a clip and probe and look like a writing pen with a light on top, or spend $40 to $80 and get a digital multimeter ( a fancy circuit tester) which are more useful. Turn off "cabin lights" circuit breaker at the panel. Take light fixture apart until you can get to the two wires inside the fiture. Turn the breaker back on and put your circuit tester to each wire where it connects on the fiture and see if there is power. Make sure the fixture switch is on. If power/electricity is there, then just replace the fiture or try cleaning the bulb contact points with emory paper - fine sand paper. Not necessary to run any new wire. If no power to the fixture, then you have to trace each wire back through all connections until you find the failure/disconect.
