OK I have got to put it here. Heard from Hunter retail department right after above post. Guess he had not taken off for that 10 day sail yet. He passed on my request. Will let you know if I get my new (and NO ONE will cut on it) board.

I find that the sink board just gets in the way too much. Instead, I bought a $10 WOODEN cutting board (very nice actually) from IKEA and cut and routed it to slide in under the stainless steel top edge of the 3 burner stove on the Hunter 36 (since we rarely use the stove anyway) and that gives a better cutting surface and is more out of the way. Plus if you DO need to use the stove it comes off easily and stores in that space UNDER the stove.

1Goldie,

No need to replace it. Simply use an orbital sander and in minutes the scratches will be gone. Then purchase a thin plastic board to cut on and eliminate scratching the board. You can also buy a replacement at an RV store.

Something to consider...

Cutting boards like the one you have are ubiquitous in stores like Wal-Mart, Target, etc. Get one larger than you need, cut it down to size, sand the edges smooth, glue four scrap pieces on the under side to "customize" it to your sink size and you are good to go. Think about having one for each sink. Depending on the galley task at hand, you may find one or the other sink to be the one you want to cover.

I simply took the starboard cutting board to my local lumberyard and had them make a replacement exactly to fit from corian to match the countertops. Piece of cake and cost I seem to remember about $20.00

Or if you are like me you find the guy in your marina who likes to make stuff out of wood, get him to take measurements of your sink and have him make you a really spiffy custom cutting board out of really cool and exotic woods that is almost a work of art and have him charge you a pittance for it. That's how you get a custom cutting board.:)

Exactly what I did, except the guy was next door! Wood is gorgeous.

Ditto on sanding, its solid surface material, small palm sander start with 100 or 140 grit paper. They will come right out, a little dust is all. Go to a 300 grit after it is smooth. Thats how we do seams and repairs on silstone, solid surface countertops....Red

I am trying to replace a scratched 'cutting board' that sits over one of the sinks in the galley of my new :( Hunter 36...not have a separate board to cut on and thing ugly thing is driving me...
Any ideas where I can get a new one?
My husband used the orbital sander and it came out like new. The only problem is, he has a fit if I use it! Since I cook a lot on the boat, I will end up bringing a cutting board from home and using it, although it won't be as stable. I like the idea of the corian insert and will look into that although I can't imagine a workshop here that would do it for 20 bucks.
