I would like to know how to remove the cable from the Binacle column to the Transmission on a 1980 Hunter 30. I disconnected the cable from the transmission and the lever on the Binacle column, I also remove the clamp attached to the engine. If there is another clamp in the binacle I could not see it so if someone has experience with this process please e mail me at (lukngd@aol.com). Thanks Joe Warren

Joe, what brand pedestal do you have?

You list your relevant model as an 88-94. If it's a YS system, the trany cable is held by a clamping arm assembly just under lever. But hell, any brand system has to somehow hold the cable below the lever. Look there.

Joe, our pedestal tube has a SS nut on...

the stern side about two thirds of the way up, which secures the throttle and shifter cable bracket on our Edson steering system. Taking this nut off of the SS stud allows you to remove the bracket from the tube. A long SS cotter pin locks both cables to the bracket, which must be removed in order to replace either cable. In order to replace the cable on our H28 I had to unbolt the pedestal from the cockpit sole and relax the steering cables at the quadrant. Also, there is a round metal sleeve at the base of the pedestal that is a slide fit, which must be removed in order to get the old cables out. This sleeve is used as a cable keeper against the tube wall and away from the steering system cables. I recommend that you replace both cables while you're at it. Keep the old throttle cable as a spare. That way you now have two new cables that do not have to be replaced for some time. This project is no big deal, just a bit time consuming. Terry
