My H22 is currently on the hard for some much needed winter maintenance. My number one goal is replacing the bulkheads. I knew they were rotten and warped but now that I have removed the mounting hardware and chainplates and removed the port bulkhead I can see that this project was not a moment too soon.
I have a couple questions, but the biggest one is this: How do I replace the starboard bulkhead? It appears to be locked into place by the fiberglass hull and the table mount/keel bolts.
My current plan is to cut the bulkhead horizontally across the middle and slide the pieces out. The new bulkhead would then be built in two pieces and joined with a strip screwed into both top and bottom halves. I am planning to use HDPE Seaboard or similar HDPE sheeting.
Any suggestions? Would the structural integrity of the boat be compromised by having the bulkhead in two pieces? I know that some of you must have had to do this before but I'm having a hard time finding any information about this part of the replacement. Thank you very much!
