Replacing boom vang line

I ordered a replacement boom vang line from Catalina Direct. When I went to switch out, the current one is about half as wide. When I put the end of the new one up to the hardware and it appears like it would be too big to easily go through. Did Catalina change the boom vang hardware at some point? I believe mine is a 1980.

In the US hardware for Catalina boats was manufactured by Garhauer.com. yours does not appear to be the case. Is it original or did previous owners change it out.
I would think CD is assuming garhauer hardware. Good luck
