I am looking to replace the main sheet car, and turning blocks on my 87 Hunter 31, with mid boom sheeting. The bearings are worn out and will not slide back and forth anymore. The original system is by Rudgerson of Sweden. I have tried to locate the company on the net, but cannot find anything related to Rudgerston of Sweden. My question is: Can the car and turning blocks be replaced with available equipment from Harkin, Schafer, Ronson? I don't really want to change the track. Any help will be appreciated. Regards, Robert of St. Louis, MO

I don't think so,,,

I went with Harken on my H34. The track you have, it think, is unique to Rudgerson. This is a big job if your sea-hood has to come off. Mine did. But man is it worth it.

You cannot believe how much improvement you will realize with high efficiency low fiction blocks and cars. Most tracks and cars are unique to themselves. Don't hesitate to go for the good stuff. You may want to consider moving the track into the cockpit which will yield a higher MA and less installation problems.

sea hood and cockpit installation

Fred, Why is taking the hood off a big deal? I need to do that on my H30 to install another deck organizer under it so I can run some more lines back to the cockpit. Alan, I know this post is specific to H31, but any ideas where you would put a cockpit mounted traveler in an H30? Anybody done that and want to share a picture? Thanks! Sherry

What is all the fuss

I just replaced my traveler (main sheet car and track) with a Garhauer MT-1 Mainsheet traveler for a very resonable $238 shipped. It took me about 15 minutes to remove the old track with an electric screwdriver. It took about an hour to put the new one on. You have to tap the new holes for the SS bolts to screw into. I used the electric screw driver to turn the tap. YOU DO NOT HAVE TO REMOVE THE HOOD. There is an aluminum backing plate in the hood. When tapping aluminum you have to be careful not to plug up the tap. Run the tap with cutting oil and go about half way, back out, clean the tap with the cutting oil, and run it threw the rest of the way. The aluminun is only about a 1/4 inch thick. If you have never done this look for someone to help you. Make sure you have the right lenth of SS bolts.

Repacement parts

I forgot, They don't make a car that will fit your track. They have changed the dimensions.

Hood Off

You do not have to removed the spray hood to replace the traveler, but if you're wondering what it looks like under the hood, here's a few pic's

Wow Patrick, that brings back memories.

OK, it's coming back to me,,,:). Yes! I've got it. I was replacing the slider too. Because the traveler was shot, I replaced it with Harken stuff. The bolts are hidden inside the track with the model I bought. That means the holes in the aluminum backing have to be drilled out. No tapping. Just nuts on the bolt ends. Yes, I've got it now! Whew, I'm feeling much better now,,,
