To save a few bucks , I'm having a highly recommended awning maker , make a new bimini from my old pattern . Should I get a window ? If so should it have a removable cover ? Should the cover be inside or out ? Little things like this drive me crazy . I'd appreciate any info .

I had a window added to my bimini.....

so that I could watch the mainsail and the windex on the top of the mast. I really like having it. The cover on mine is on the inside and it can be rolled to the forward edge and tied open with a tie attached to the bimini. The cover has velcro along all three unattached sides. I carefully planned where the window should be so that I would easily be able to watch the sail through the window from where I usually sit to sail.

Depends on the sun . . .

Bruce is right on location and reason. I have a cover above the window as the sun would chew up the window in one or two seasons otherwise. The cover rolls up and nicely tucks under a small envelope at the fore end of the window . . . works nicely, even in heavy winds. But whether the cover is above or below the window is a matter of choice and as noted, somewhat dependent on your weather (sun).

Just what I needed....

Bruce and I sail the same area , I'm waiting for a price quote , so I have a few days to investigate . I just needed to hear an opinion from someone who has it . As of now , I've got the same inside set-up ordered . A sailor friend recommended this awning maker . His prices are great , can't wait to see his work .

Real cheap

I found a "Hurricane" bimini from Overtons to be the cheapest and yet fairly good quality for an off the shelf unit. I paid approx $180 for one for my old H-27 and it comes with a nice zip on cover
