Looking for advise or feedback on replacing or repairing the bearing assembly on my 373's genoa winch. It's a Lewmar 46 CST two speed. Replacing the entire winch is a bit pricey, but I have never disassembled or repaired a winch before. Would appreciate any insight. Thanks.

Try the Lewmar web site. I believe they have all their winches on line.

Maintenance kits for Lewmar winches are readily available. Its a fairly easy task to tear down and rebuild. Find a fair sized box and cut a hole in the bottom the diameter of the winch base and set it over the winch. That way as you disassemble and re assemble you won't lose little parts over the side. No need to take the winch off the boat.

There are some great videos on You Tube specifically targeted at Lewmar winches. It is not difficult.

Lubing a big Lewmar is cheap and easy.

REPAIRING one however is costly. Every now and then we blow one up in a race. 2 or 3 parts need replacing. $600 is typical.
