We purchased a new VENT, DORADE/COWL from the Hunter Parts store. The old one was accidentally kick overboard by one of our guests. It's the exact replica except the new one doesn't quite fit onto the collar which is attached to the deck. It's only a fraction of an inch off but we will also need to replace the collar.
Does anyone have experience in removing these collars. It looks like it has been glued or epoxied on.

If it's epoxied on then I don't know of a way to save it. I hope you bought a new collar along with your cowl. Tripping over those things, getting in the way and coming loose is why I took the darn things off and installed solar air vents in it's openings. Plus they looked butt ugly on my H30.

Thanks for your response. We did purchase the new collar. The issue we are having is removing the old one without damaging the deck.

I guess get something under the collar and carefully pry it up breaking it into pieces. It seems butyl tape would have been a perfect choice for sealing that collar instead of 5200 or epoxy.

Maybe a little heat, and a lot of patient coaxing with a plastic putty knife.

I just replaced all my original ports. I imagine they used what your builder did. I bought a painters putty knife from Home Depot. It is the one that has a sharp point on one side. I simply pushed the blade between the boat and the frame...and pried up. Once the seal was broken I could "run" the knife around the frame and remeove it. You don't have to worry about breaking the thing, and any marks you make will be under the new colllar. Not as much a PITA as some jobs. Clean up with mineral spirits to remove the old "putty."
