1997 Beneteau 281 Oceanis: the 'Cutlass Bearing' has been pushed inside the housing has Genoa sheets wrapped around the prop shaft. I have purchased a new Cutlass bearing but never installed one before. Beneteau parts has told me that this cutlass bearing is the same for up to 38 footers (25mm, 1" shaft). If you have replace one before can you help me in explaining the replacement process. So far: On the inside I have pushed away the Rubber seal (seals water from going inside) toward the engine and pushed a thin rod for about 18 to 20 inches and I can feel obstruction. Is this the Cutlass bearing? Can I hammer this out? There is room around the shaft (1/4 inch) and I need to know how I can push this bearing out? Do I need to detach the propeler shaft from the transmission? Thank you, email: jggodard@yahoo.ca
