I need to replace the tiller on my 88 wingkeel H23. I checked the archives and found that Mike B had the same problem late in 1999. Mike B, where did you get your replacement? I called Hunter and they don't make wooden tillers any more, but they referred me to someone else, who doesn't do 'em stock. Any ideas? Thanks for your help. Peter H23 "Raven"

Peter there are a couple of companies that will make you a tiller, one of them is in california , I got a reply from a guy in Pa who sails and does woood working I sent him my old one and he did a great job of making my new one, Let me try to find an address for him, he used to be on the forum, Mike

Peter, here is address for the guy who made my tiller, John Drost Jr, rr3Box 151 a Meshoppen Pa 18630 Phone is 570 869 2031 The company I refered to is H and L Marine Phone 323 636 1718 fax 323 636 1720/ They sent me a form telling how to measure for a tiller, John did a great job for me so take your pick I just felt it would be closer to the original if I had him use mine as a pattern, hope this helps , If I can do any more let me know , My email is mmsailor@aol.com good luck , Mike

West Marine Does Fit
The previous owner replaced the tiller on my 87 H23 with one from West Marine. It does fit and looks very nice although may be too long for practical use. I definately would never need a teller extension. The previous owner used to singlehand alot which may explain why he chose this length.

Modified West Marines replacement tiller
The previous owner bought the West Marine tiller, but had not installed it. I had to glue/screw to small pieces of wood to the sides of the tiller, to make it wide enought where it bolts to the rudder housing. I then sealed it with sikkens. This as worked for me very well for the last 2 1/2 years. As far a the length, I'm not sure how long the orginal tiller was, but I have found that the further forward I keep the weight on the 23 the faster she goes. Bob SV 'TWINKLE'

I JUST REPLACED MINE
I just replaced the tiller on my '85 Hunter 23. H & L Marine in CA made mine and it is great. They faxed to me simple measuring instructions and sent me a new tiller within 6 weeks.
