Replacement Teak rails for companionway

I need to replace at least one of the teak rails on my Hunter 27 (1984)companionway entrance that holds the slats. It is cracked and I have tried to repair it unsuccessfully since the wood is so old and brittle. Does anyone know if Hunter or another aftermarket company sells replacement teak kits for specific Hunter models? I have seen the stuff available at West marine and such and it seems like too much work to retrofit.Thanks,Kevin

Companionway Hatch

I had same problem. Found several companies that could provide complete teak companionway covers and rails. Lowest price was in the $450 range. Bought a piece of oak finished marine plywood, utilized the existing pieces as a pattern, hired a local carpenter to cut and finish. Stained and varnished the pieces and then installed. Looks great, is weatherproof so far, and spent less than $125.If you still want the name of the company I found, send me an e-mail and I will reply.Good Luck!

Not a hard job to re-mill......

I just sold my '78 27 and bought an '81 30.....YEAH! Waiting on delivery. However, just prior to selling the 27 I replaced all of the teak aroung the companion way. It was not a hard job at all to re-mill the pieces and it looked great. I used a bench saw to mill them and they looked like factory new.
