Well it's time for me to look for replacement sails for my '88 Irwin 43 sloop. I'll start with the roller furling Jib. The spec sheet has data listed as follows: 100% fore triangle=524sq Ft.: I=53.75ft, J= 19.50ft, P=48.63ft, E=19.00ft I have no idea what those #'s mean? Does anyone have experience replacing sail??

"I have no idea what those #'s mean? Does anyone have experience replacing sail??" ...and you are sailing around in a 43-ft boat??? Gimme a break.

Be Nice or Leave, Thank You.

I have a magnet that says exactly that...Be Nice or Leave, Thank You. Maybe everyone doesn't know as much as you do, but you don't have to be rude. It's probably a size-envy thing, anyway. In answer to your question, the letters and numbers tell a sailmaker the dimensions the sail needs to be to fit your boat. "I" is mast height from deck to top. "P" is height from boom to top of mainsail (tack to head corners). "E" is length of the mainsail along the boom (tack to clew). "J" is the distance from the mast forward to the jib connection point. All you need to do is give the numbers to your chosen sailmaker and he'll know what to do with them.
