Replacement rudder casting

The kick-up rudder casting on my recently purchased 1984 22' Catalina broke, and I replaced it with a new casting direct from Catalina Yachts. The new one has the same plan form as the old one; however, the hole for the pivot bolt that holds the locking mechanism in place is located about 2 inches lower than on the old casting. This means my rudder sits about 2 inches deeper in the water. While this should give me more turning force, it also means more force on the casting, pintles, and gudgeons. Has anyone else run into this situation, and what did you do about it, if anything? I probably could replace the side pieces on the new casting with the ones from the old casting, but am reluctant to do this, if the lower rudder position doesn't really pose a serious problem.
