well the weather has been perfect hear in central west coast fl. I have "free willy"s floor about done and would like to open her up for some breeze. The po made some homemade plastic and wood frame covers for the Morgan 33 outisland windows, basicly fixed covers on the outside. I want to remove these but the original windows are missing the clear plastic window. I have five ports that open, or at least should. 4 of the five window frames are good, the other one has its tabs broken off. So, does anyone know what brand and size port came on the 1975 Morgan 33 outisland, and where i can get replacements for the clear plastic portion? I had a quote from new found metals for new ones and it was around $1200 a couple years ago. I just don't have the money. 1 think they may be 4" x 12" or 14" thanks for any help-Pat

Hey Pat, how you doing down there? So the Morgan OI is about ready? I think that you can get those portlights right here on SBO. They look like Gray portlights from Pompanette. Measure the outside dimensions of the spigot, the thin rectangular frame that sticks out through the hull sides. That is how they normally rate them. From the pictures I have seen they do look to be about 4 x 14. Here is what I looked at: http://www.sailingtexas.com/smorgan33103.html . So that would be the "Cut Out Size", probably 4.5 x 14.5 : http://www.pompanette.com/pompweb.n...0b6a37db4eafbf05852567c400837f28?OpenDocument .

Hi Ed, the boat is far from done! Ready is another thing entirely. I can sail with a portopotty, bucket for shower, and a cooler full of favorite beverage. But, the other half needs some more refinements. So i will finish the floor-hot coat with resin and glass in place and take her out- In port the wind is seldom favorable to get good ventilation down below. I don't need to replace the entire port light, the frame on 4 of them is still good and i would'nt be too afraid of trying to jury rig the broken ears on the fifth one. I just would like the clear lenses for the inside.

MORE

Sorry for the short reply Ed, but i'm at work and the boss showed up! Yeah, thanks for the reply, its comming back, i think they were made by grey back in the 70's and now they are beckson. I will check size and theen see if the chandlery here has them, i have had excellant service from here in the past. I've been keeping up on your progress...dinghy floor, and "Ladylove" delivery. Hope it all goes smooth. Maybe you can scoot down here for a ride on "free willy" when it gets too cold there? When i get her ready.

The boat that I was looking at might have Beckson's. They are not the same as Grey, are called "rain-drain". They have a better drainage system to keep water from lying in the spigot. In that link to the "for sale" boat you can see those drains below the spigot. I don't think the Grey drains are that pronounced.

Would love to get down there. We checked out the condo in May. Trip was too hard.

Hi Ross, thanks for the offer but i don't think i can fab new clear lenes for my post hatches. #/16 is about the original thickness but they hav a ring on edge all around them to stiffen/strengthen them. Would need an ultrasound welder or something. I see you gave away some cypress for a bow pulpit recently! He's giving away all his stuff, utoh. I need to skin/cover the whole inside of my boat with something....was thinking aromatic cedar but when i varnish it will loose its smell. Any good ideas? Yeah I know you used every exotic wood from all parts of the world. But want thin 3/8 or 1/4 and cheap/cheap/cheap price wise that is. I will post a upgrade pic when the floor is done. thanks

Re: Thanks Ross

Local atlantic white cedar aka juniper would work for you. As you say the varnish would seal the sweet smell but that sweet odor only lasts for about six months anyway. You can get cedar oil and a jar of wood chips and get the cedar odor without the hassle.
And the only imported wood on my boat came from an old mahogany deck that I was given. ;)

i could have sworn u used zebra wood or something in your boat. Sorry, my mistake. Does white cedar have a nice grain and take stain well? Was thinking a light mahogany or honey maple color.

Think cedar shingles. The problem for a cabin lining is it is quite soft. Down there in Florida I would seel out a local sawmill. Have to go to a small town where the migrant population doesn't want to live. Try the central florida yellow pages or this infernal internet. lol
BTW if it is just port holes you need I have a barrel full of those. I can send you an assortment of sizes and you just make a cutout and slip them in.

what Ross?

There you go again giving away stuff! Is your health ok? Um, the boat has standard port windows approx 4 x 14 original from the factory. The window/port frames are all in good shape except 1 of them, the ears that the clear window lens pivots on are broke off. I was originally gonna replace the plastic ports with lovely new found metals ss ones but don't htave the money. So i was wonderring if i could just replace the clear plastic lens part of the window. The previous owner built rectangular frames and glued plastic and frame over the outside of the window so they are fixed shut. I want to replace the clear lenses and remove the exterior plastic covers so I can breath down below-gotta f/g down in there this week and gettin tired of getting dizzy and such. I was thinking of adding port hole to cockpit to send more light to the aft quarterberth. o yeah I could use 1 or 2 that would be nice. So the cedar is too soft? I suppose your right there. I made hatch boards out of it for od25 and they dent just looking at them. Thanks for the help.

would it look funny if i installed 3-4 port holes inbetween my existing windows? Who cares what it looks like -form follows function!

When I was glassing the inside of Bietzpadlin I would put a box fan over the fore hatch to blow out and pull fresh air in the companion. That helped a lot.
