One of my # 7 single speed winches popped off the center stem other day on my '79 Oday 23. The winches are OEM. After getting a service manual for the unit from Lewmar, I took the winch apart and found that a piece of the center stem had broken off just above the key. Now the key cannot hold the spindle down; its as if the locking ring were missing. Ideally, I would like to find a replacment center stem so that I do not have to buy a new winch or redrill into the boat. Lewmar itself does not have replacement parts for anything this old. Aside from D&R Marine (who I will call today), does anyone have any suggestions about where to find such an old, esoteric part?
