Does anyone have a lead for replacement parts for the manual bilge pump found in the cockpits of Oday 28s? Thanks

D and R

You might try Rudy at D and R marine. I think he has a link on this web site. He has a lot of O'day inventory but you'll need to call him on the phone; he doesn't respond to e-mail too well. Sort of a reticent(sp) no-nonsense fellow but he knows his stuff. My O'day 28 has a "guzzler" pump (I think) and the parts are available at most marine supply stores. If yours is like mine you might be able to pull it out of the boat and take it to a chandlery. They will be able to identify the pump and ought to be able to help you sniff out a rebuild kit or a whole new pump if need be. Good Luck, MIke

Look at the pump

The manufacturers name or the model should be evident somewhere on the pump. Also check the sizes of the hoses in & out and the size of the pump itself ( probably the diameter) and with this info, any marine supply should be able to help you, as Mike suggested. Most production boats like O'Day's uses proprietary, off the shelf, parts from a variety of suppliers for nearly everything except the actual fiberglass mouldings and perhaps a few castings, so unlike a car where you're dependant on the dealer for nearly everything, the equipment on your boat should be available from a variety of sources, including the OEM supply if still in business. Rudy at D & R is an invaluable source for stuff that is uniquely O'Day, but I hate to think that his valuable time is taken up by questions about parts that are common to many boats and readily available from most places like West, Defender etc etc

Defender

As TT suggested there are many good sources for sailboat equipment. TT suggested that, as an example, Defender is a good source for equipment. I have found Defender to be the lowest price for name brand items. Also if you go to their on-line catalogue and print off the page showing the item you are interested in then take the page to a West Marine store they will sell you the item at Defender's price. That way you can: avoid the wait for the part, avoid shipping fees and if it isn't right you can go back to the store for a replacement or a refund. A good deal all the way around. Happy hunting, Mike
