I need to replace the ports on my 1982 33 footer. Does anyone know whether I should order the 1 inch or the 2 inch spigot model on the Beckson variety. I'm guessing I would order the the rain-drain model. The size is the 7X14". Thanks, Jeff

Check out this

I have purchased some of these Trimatrix 7 by 15 for 99.99 each http://www.newfoundmetals.com/ for my 79 H33 .Haven't had time to install but I know someone else who has them and loves them. Some folks on this board say through bolted port lights are difficult to install correctly because of variation of cabin side thickness but they seem much tougher than the all plastic port lights .

$99.? Are you sure?

I paid twice that for my bronze NFMs. That is a great price Kevin. Someone else installed those and, I thought, paid a lot more. But Jeff, Kevin is right. You need 7x15s. Otherwise you will have a lot of gap to fill. And you cannot fill it with caulk, you have to build it up some way(see Related Link). Even with the 7x15s they will not be a tight fit. And bolt-thru portlights, like mine, are a bear to install. In fact the inside and outside are not parallel. So you end up drilling a very large hole in order to line up the bolt with the boss on the frame. Just another way for water to get in. You have to use a lot of the right kind of caulk around that outside frame. Use lots of tape to protect the gelcoat. Let it squeeze out but do not fully tighten until it sets up. Then let it sit for a day before you take off all the excess. If I were to do it over I would install the Beckson Rain-drains(sorry Kevin).

Tri Matrix

Hi Ed The Trimatrix 7 by 15's were on sale for 99.99. I got six of them. I figured for that price why not. I installed the first one today. It worked out great. No more broken portlight's (I Hope) Jeff, another H-33 owner I know just purchased all new Trimatrix portlights at these prices.

Thanks for the heads up

on the portlight prices. I called NFM and they confirmed $89 for the 5x12s, with the hinge springs. I paid about $170 a year ago for the same portlights. I still have the cockpit/galley and quarter berth portlights to replace. I am going to order two more of the trimatrix. I am satisfied with the four I installed last year. New one is aft and old Bomar is forward

Chet, NFM told me $99

for the 7x15 and $89 for the 5x12 when I called the phone number on their web site about a week ago.I could not remember my portlight size so I got prices on both sizes. When I told them I bought from them a year ago they looked up my order and told me I bought 5x12s for about $165 plus our lovely Washington state sales tax of 8.8%

How far do they protrude?

How far do the Trimetrix ports protrude into the cabin? I have an H25 and want to be rid of the plastic knobs on the factory ports that knock you in the head when you sit down. I installed a Lewmar Ocean 60 hatch on her, and would like to follow through with Lewmar openers all the way around, but they are ungodly expensive. It appears from photos that the Lewmar latches only stick an inch or so into the cabin, so they may be worth it to my skull. What brands of ports intrude the least?

port intrusion

The beckson models have 'spigot lengths" of 1 inch and 2 inch. On the H33, I think the 1 inch is adequate.

TriMatrix Ports

I just ordered replacement ports from NFM. The 2005 price for the 7x15 port is $109.95 The salesperson (Carli) explained the price increase (from $99.00) was necessary because of higher material and shipping costs. The 5x12 port is $89.95. Stainless steel screens are $39.95 and $29.95 respectively. You can (and should) rent a drill template from them for each size port. The template(s) rent for $10 and a $100 deposit is required (to insure that you return it.) There is no time limit on how long you can keep the template. I will be posting photos of the project as it progresses.
