Good afternoon to all:

I discovered that the macerator pump on my boat had cracked along the housing where it meets the body. Every time the toilet was flushed, the contents of the holding tank would be pumped into the hold below the setee where it would drain into the stuffing box and ultimately to the bilge. You can imagine the mess that is created.

I ordered a new pump and the question I have is this: When I disconnect the 3/4 outlet line to install the new pump will I be flooding the boat with sea water? Anyone have any experience with this?

ln my boat the seacock is right next to the engine seacock. an unfortunate placement that led me to once close the engine seacock and almost cause an engine disaster so i painted the engine seacock da-glo orange. by the way, long ago i was taught to keep my ingition key around the engine seacock so not to neglect opening and closing it.

I have not seen a sea cock for this hose. I believe that it empties out near the transom, possibly above the water line but I will have to check it when I am at the boat. This hose is the one that dumps the effluent out.

there is no way your boat left the factory sending waste anywhere other than the holding tank. you pump into long island sound and get caught you got heap big trouble.

Macerator

The macerator most likely empties the holding tank, and if the outlet is above the water line there will not be a seacock involved. That being the case (probably) you can remove that hose with no worry of an onrush of seawater. Find out where the other end of the hose is before you proceed any further.

Thanks for all the information. The boat is always in the waters at the east end of Long Island and there is a very good pump out system out here. This macerator gave me nothiing but trouble and the only reason for replacement is to stop the leaking when the toilet is flushed. I guess that I could have simply sealed off the tee with a plug but I did not want to play around with this. Again, thanks for the help.
