Good evening everyone:

I suspect that I will have to replace the cutlass bearing on my 1980 Catalina 30 now that it is on hard.

Has anyone out there done this by themselves? I downloaded a video that was very instructive but it appeared to be too easy. It suggested taking 1/2 threaded rod, washers and a piece of pipe and devising a tool to remove the bearing after removing the prop shaft. Is there a trick to this or is it like falling off a log? What about retattaching the shaft?

A few years ago I designed my own tool for removing the bearing and the prop without pulling the shaft. The same tool can be used for installing the prop and the new bearing. If you write to me at vsuben@optonline.net, I will send you a photo of the tool in action.
