replacement mast Hunter 23.5

Loooking for ideas on fixing if at all possible a mast on my 1995 Hunter 23.5. The mast has a vertical crack about 4 inches long between the two spreader arms. Hunter said that welding would compromise the mast integrity. My repair shop located a replacement mast in Miami FL for $1,740 with rigging, $740 without ($80 to switch the rigging over which is great). Shipping with container is $1,100. If I found one within driving distance, I could haul it on my boat. With all the storm damaged boats, I was hoping there would be boats with major haul damage, but an undameged mast a little closer to PA. Has anyone had experience with repairing a mast?

Do you have insurance on the boat? Try your insurance company. That is what you pay them for.

If you are worried about the weld why not extend it out with a plate a few inches larger than the oringnal damage.After painting I don't think it would show much and would be a hell of a lot cheaper and even stronger.I bet you could get it done for 2 or $300.
