Hello forum members , I have a 1988 ODAY 222 that needs a new Mast foot and deck plate . The original set up is made from a soft alloy and has broken. Both the mast foot and deck plate or "tabernacle are in need of replacement. I can't imagine this is a first. Any Ideas or resources?

Thanks

Mike

I experienced the same problem on my 1988 272. You must have the RigRite components that you cannot obtain any longer. I removed the mast foot from mine and had the bottom center protrusion ground off so that the bottom was flat. I had a hole drilled in each corner of the mast foot. I purchased a new stainless deck plate with 2 large stainless pins and had it drilled to match the holes in the mast foot and mounted it to my boat deck. The stainless steel is a bear to drill so you may want to let a machine shop line the parts up and drill the holes. I love the change on mine. I also added a deck plate where I can attach numerous blocks to the base of my mast. Rudy at D&R or Dwyer mast has the parts.

Hey Mr Stanley, do you have pictures of the deck plate you added so you could add additional blocks? I'm interested as I am in the process of refitting my Lockley Newport LN 23 and looking to run everything to the cockpit as my sailing adventures will most probably be alone. Thanks,
James

James, I do not have any pictures and my mast is down and covered up for the winter but I can tell you what I used. I bought my parts from Dwyer Aluminum Mast Company. I used a stainless steel Dwyer Halyard Organizer Plate (part # DH 2150 @ $53.62) underneath a stainless steel Dwyer mast hinge (part # DH 2150 @ $87.92). I love the arrangement and I have plenty of holes to attach things and it does not break off easily like the cast aluminum from the original setup.

Hi from Ken.. I also have a 222. Please refer to the August 18 Forum entry. This discusses various mast and mounting parameters to be mindful of in your search. Look for:
Length of mast for an Oday 222.

Thank you, Mr Ken. I will check it out. I'm looking for options that might make single-handed sailing for me more safe.

Thank you Mr Stanley. I will check it out as posted with Mr Ken, I want to make it as safe as possible with structural integrity for me to single-hand sail from the cockpit also as much as possible. I do have a new stainless steel mast base that we purchased back when we first got the boat on salvage back in 2006 (still in the box). As I see postings that relate to "Selah's" refit that give me things to consider when I get to that point, I then have a file to get into and ask questions of forum members. Right now, my internal encased ballast / keel and hull joinery are the focus of my attention for repair. However, the mast stepping and compression post will be close behind. Thank you for your ideas and help---everyone who is following Selah's refit .
